Transitional Kindergarten — Fifth Grade
Each child is a unique person, created in God’s image to reflect His nature and character. A child’s inner self needs spiritual and intellectual nourishment, which comes to the child through a relationship with God, with people, with ideas expressed in literature, art and music, as well as with objects in the physical world.
Our lower school curriculum spreads an abundant feast of ideas designed to whet a child’s appetite for knowledge and teach them to feed themselves. Each child’s ideas are valued too, and times are set aside for the child to tell what he or she has observed, heard, or thought.
While we acknowledge each child’s unique position as God’s image-bearer, we also know he is sinful and in need of God’s grace. Our teachers encourage full and honest communication, seeing every activity as an opportunity to help the child exercise self-control and examine his or her motives, whether it is playing at recess, working in the classroom, or visiting a museum. We nurture our children in hopes that they will come to love God, experience faith, repentance and grace, so that they may glorify God and enjoy Him forever.
We place great importance on intentional family participation and partnership in the education of our students. Our school and children benefit from the wonderful and diverse God-given gifts and abilities of our families, and our families benefit from experiencing authentic Christian community together.
Volunteer
All families commit to 40 volunteer hours per school year at Redeemer School. A variety of volunteer opportunities exist, in areas including:
- Hospitality, cooking/baking, entertaining, and/or decorating.
- Spending time with students.
- Administration, communication, writing, and photography.
- Technology, audio-visual support or lighting.
- Working with your hands, gardening, being outdoors, or building things.
- Coaching and athletics.
Enrichment Days
The covenant family of God is diverse by God’s design. Enrichment Days (“E-Days”) are intended to enrich the students by allowing them to benefit from the diversity of gifts, interests, and associations among all the parents of the students in their various classes.
All families of K-5th grade students prepare and teach 1½-hour E-Day lessons in their child’s class. This meaningful time in the classroom allows parents to build relationships with their child, their child’s classmates and teacher, and other families. Training and support are provided to help ensure success!

We encourage students to serve Christ by serving others in thought, word, and deed. This requires dependence on God, as well as reinforcement from the example of parents and teachers. Building this kind of leadership in our children is crucial in order to carry out God’s purposes to a world in need of the gospel.
In elementary school, we pursue servant leadership at all levels. Classes serve one another by leading our biweekly schoolwide chapel worship service, older students serve as “reading buddies” to younger students, classes serve the community with a variety of projects, and families join together in parent-led service projects.
Redeemer Exploration and Discovery (READ) Program
The Redeemer Exploration and Discovery (READ) program is available for all TK-third grade Redeemer School students after noon dismissal (12:15 to 2:45 pm). READ is supervised by the school and follows the Redeemer School calendar. Teachers are trained in the school’s philosophy & follow a curriculum developed by the school. Stories and activities will not overlap with the current school-day curriculum.
Our afternoons in READ will provide an atmosphere of unhurried yet purposeful activities and play for your child. Each week, children will enjoy extended periods of time outdoors for nature exploration, nature walks, and recess; daily Bible lessons with worship and prayer; living books read aloud and independently; and continued time to study great artists and composers. During times of free play children will have a wealth of puzzles, games, and handicrafts in which to engage. Puppets, dolls, costumes, art supplies, and building blocks will ignite their imagination and delight as they play alongside friends. An afternoon spent in READ is a relaxing and refreshing time for brains and bodies to digest the day.
