Deeply Rooted

Our gracious God gives us many beautiful thoughts in His Word and in His world to help us understand our identity in Him. This school year we are exploring the science and theology of being deeply rooted.

Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

Colossians 2:6-7

Mark 4 reminds us of the importance of roots. Regarding tree roots, we know that healthy roots hold a tree in place. The deeper the root, the stronger the tree! Roots soak up water and nutrients that are not just needed to live but also flourish. Healthy roots also keep soil held together that might wash away otherwise.

What makes roots healthy? Watering deeply and thoroughly. As God’s children, we are regularly supplied with nourishment and refreshment from Living Water- the ultimate source of life that must be our foundation of everything.

Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can soak in this Living Water by delighting in and meditating on the Word of God.  When we spend time talking to and listening to the Lord, we come to know- through practical and personal experience- the love of Jesus, our ultimate source of life so that we are filled up to all the fullness of God.

This tree is still standing, even though the sand has been washed away around it, because of its deep roots.

We invite you to download a Prayer Guide designed around trees on our school campus as a way to experience and learn about God’s creation, delight in and mediate on the Word of God, and pray for our school community.
